Suunto Dive Computers - No Limits For Perfection

Suunto Logo

Suunto dive computers are well-known for their elegance and multifunctionality, precision and reliability. Once you tried them – you won’t use anything else instead! From the little Gekko to leader D9tx – it is a great step in technology, design and innovation for just a few years from Suunto!

Among Suunto dive computers the most famous are Gekko, Cobra, and models from D-range: D4, D6, D9 and their air-integrated buddies: D4i, D6i, D9tx.

History of Suunto began in 1936 when orienteering enthusiast Tuomas Vohlonen decided to redesign traditional dry compass in order to make the needle steadier and readings more accurate.

Since that time Suunto became well-known for its quality products of precision mechanics, like field and marine compasses.

First dive computer was designed in 1980’s and mass production of it followed in 1987.

In the middle of 2000’s Suunto introduced to the scubadiving community one of the finest dive instrument on the market those days – Suunto D9, which is the leader of Suunto dive computers range. That unit has combined dive computer and digital compass and it has many unique features. And not long time ago we saw appearance of air-integrated trimix dive computer D9tx that inherited many features from D9 and got very new functions of its own.

In 2009 Suunto brought to the market Suunto HelO2 that was designed especially for the needs of technical divers, who uses trimix to dive deeper and for longer time, while exploring wrecks and caves.

Location: Headquarters Office, Vantaa, Finland

The company employs more than 400 people worldwide, and sales market covers more than 100 countries. Suunto is a subsidiary of Amer Sports, which also owns sister brands Salomon, Arc'teryx, Atomic, Wilson, Precor, Mavic and Nikita.

Suunto Dive Computers: Technology and Algorithms

Suunto delivers wide range of models that may easily satisfy demands the most capricious diver. Beginners, recreational, technical divers and guys from freediving community will find computers that totally suit to their demands.

With that broad spectrum of products you definitely won't miss the "special one"!

Suunto dive computers are based on Suunto-RGBM (Reduced Gradient Bubble Model) algorithm. This modern algorithm was developed in cooperation between Suunto and Bruce Wienke. It predicts both dissolved and free gas in the tissues and blood of divers.

The advantage of Suunto-RGBM algorithm is the additional safety through its ability to adapt to a wide variety of diving situations.

Suunto-RGBM addresses a number of diving circumstances outside the range of just dissolved gas models by following actions:

  • monitoring continuous multiday diving;
  • computing closely spaced repetitive diving;
  • reacting to a dive deeper than previous dive;
  • adapting for rapid ascents which produce high micro-bubble build-up;
  • incorporating consistency with physical laws for gas kinetics

Suunto dive computers have following mounting options:

  1. computer consoles (Cobra, Cobra 3, and some computers may be used as wrist-top units or in console, depending on your needs, like Gekko, Zoop, or Vyper);
  2. dive computer watch (D4,D6, D9) and the latest additions to D-series: D9tx, D6i and D4i

Suunto dive computers use unique technologies and principles, which make these dive instruments suitable for every possible diving situation and satisfy both beginners and technical divers.
