Sherwood Profile is a basic instrument and may be recommended dive computer as for beginners (who looks for simple and entry level instrument) and recreational divers as a main instrument or a backup. We may wear it in two configurations - as a wrist unit or computer console with submersible pressure gauge (SPG) and compass. Dive computer is based on modified Haldanean algorithm with 12 tissue compartments. It is designed with only one control button for setting up and reading data. It supports two dive modes: Air and Nitrox.

Sherwood Profile has only 1 control button and it is enough to program it and read dive data. Dive computer is very simple to use and Sherwood scuba made it very streamligned for us! Profile has 3 bar graphs and they are located in the same positions as in Sherwood Insight: one shared bar graph for Nitrogen and Oxygen loading is on the left, and Ascent bar graph is on the right side:
During set up or diving, dive computer displays information in several screens - main and alternatives that are easy to interpret and Sherwood Profile user manual is very well written - so you won't have any troubles to learn this Sherwood dive computer, like all other computers from Sherwood - Insight and Wisdom 2.
At this stage we will set desirable parameters to our Sherwood Profile and you will see that there are not many of them! After accessing Set mode you will be able to set following parameters that you may see on this Reference Card below.

And that's all! Very straightforward and quick! This Sherwood scuba dive computer doesn't have in-built Dive Simulator, like Sherwood Insight, but I recon it should not be considered as a negative thing.
Sherwood Profile dive computer has several displays to give all information you will need either diving in No-Decompression or Decompression modes, and either with Air or Nitrox.
Sherwood Profile: Diving With Air & NitroxWe set Wet activation to ON and when dive computer senses that you went down to 1.5 meters, it turns No-Deco dive mode and starts showing following data.

You will get 2nd alternative display (with PO2 and FO2 numbers) only in case if you set up Sherwood Profile for Nitrox, otherwise it is unavailable. To keep us safe in any diving condition, computer has Safety and Deep Stops reminders during No-Decompression dives:
If we set Deep Stop function to On - upon reaching certain conditions of dive this function will bring specific display with required Deep Stop depth and time. And again - this safety procedure is only recommended, so if we continue our ascent - we won't get any penalty.
If you exceeded your No-Decompression depth and time limits – Sherwood Profile turns Decompression mode to help you manage decompression correctly. And to do this you need to ascend to the depth displayed or to the depth a bit deeper than displayed and stay there for time that shown on the screen.

During diving you may have Conditional violation during Decompression Mode. It means that you ascended to shallower depth than required for Decompression Stop and maybe stayed at that shallower depth for some time. If you decsend to required depth in 5 minutes - Decompression process will go in normal way, but if you stay shallower than required depth for longer - Sherwood Profile will turn Delayed Violation #1, and you will get penalty time, that must be worked off before you will get any off-gassing credit. All other violations - Delayed violation #2 and #3 are turned on if you get into the conditions when Deco Stop depth is required between 18 and 21 meters (Delayed Violation #2) or you exceeded maximum operational depth (MOD) of this dive computer (Delayed Violation #3). Each of these violations have specific procedures we need to follow to ascend safely.
When Sherwood Profile senses 0.6 meters depth for 1 second it turns on Surface mode and starts counting surface interval. First 10 minutes after the dive called Transition period and if we descend during these 10 minutes - it will be considered as a continuation of previous dive. After 10 minutes on surface - previous dive will be recorded in dive log and Surface Sequence starts scrolling through Fly/Desaturation timers and Plan screen. At that moment we will have an access to Log, Plan and Set modes. Log mode can store 50 the most recent dives and have main and two alternative log screens with dive data recorded in logs, and it is very informative and easy interpreted (battery removal does not make any affect on Log memory). Sherwood Profile has Reset function - this feature allows you to do RESET to all data including Logs, and nitrogen and oxygen calculations – great beneficial feature if you use Profile for rental and training purposes. One inconvenience while using this computer is lack of PC function to download and manage logs to PC or upload settings as we may do with Sherwood Insight dive computer.
Sherwood Profile: What Divers Say
Sherwood Profile is a basic dive computer with all necessary functions to manage Air and Nitrox dives without hassle. It can be configured as a convenient console version or worn as a wrist unit. It is entry level instrument and recommended dive computer for the beginners who will find it very intuitive and easy to understood dive instrument, they will learn it quickly and be ready to dive with it in a short time. Recreational divers with Nitrox certification may use this instrument as a main dive computer or backup device. Sherwood Profile was designed for those people who prefer simple solutions for diving and who want to save some money for the rest of their dive gear. As we were diving with it - we didn't find any problems - everything went nicely and comfortably as it should be with instrument such a class.

I was diving with Sherwood Profile for ages, but when I bought Amphos - I started using Profile as a backup device. They work great together so far. I had Advanced certification, so these two Sherwood dive computers do everything for me.
Sherwood Profile has 1 button for an easy access, so to set up and call data I need to scroll through the menus. It takes not much time, but of course it is slower than 2 or 4 buttons computers.
I recommend this dive computer as a backup for Haldanean models, and for the very entry level.
Sherwood Profile is a great basic computer at a great value! I use this dive computer consol for Air diving at day time but it did everything i wanted.
Simpliest menu system with only button fast access - what can be easiest? Display is easy to read and I can replace battery myself.
Someone may say that Sherwood Profile isn't good enough because of lack of PC download option, but for me it's not a big deal - its memory capacity is large enough to keep all my logs that I could be interested in to review later!
