Mares Nemo Sport is made as a wrist dive watch computer and is suitable for beginners in diving and recreational divers who have Nitrox Certification.

Nemo Sport is very comfortable and easy to use dive computer that has all necessary functions to let us dive recreational with Air and Nitrox. It manages decompression perfectly and we may surely wear it as a normal digital wrist watch onshore.

It is not an air-integrated dive computer, so obviously it has lack of functions like, Tank pressure and Air Time Remaining displays and real time calculations for those values, but at the same time it has plenty of other useful features, which can satisfy demand of most recreational divers.

Dive computer has 2 bar graphs:

  1. Ascent Rate Indicator - shows speed of your ascent;
  2. Oxygen Limiting Indicator (OLI) - monitors oxygen toxicity and graphically represents it by means of adding and subtracting segments

On surface or underwater you will get main and in-demand displays with all data you will need to be well-informed about current situation.

We will set parameters of this dive computer, using two set modes - Time Set and Dive Set. No many parameters to set, as you may see.

Mares Nemo Sport: Diving With Air & Nitrox

Mares Nemo Sport has 2 dive modes: Air and Nitrox that we set in Dive Set mode.

Dive mode itself consists of 4, so called, states:

  1. No-Decompression state;
  2. Decompression state;
  3. Safety Stop state;
  4. Out-Of-range state

You may surely (!) get into some of these states during diving and Nemo Sport provides you with displays with all necessary dive data.

No-Decompression state means that you do not exceed the No-Decompression Limits (NDL), and Decompression state happens if you exceed them, obviously.

Decompression state has its own sub-states:

  1. Decompression dive state ( switches on, when No-Decompression Limits (NDLs) are exceeded and dive computer displays depth of the Decompression Stop);
  2. Decompression Stop violation state (switches on, when required Decompression Stop depth is shallower than indicated Decompression Stop depth for Decompression dive state (1));
  3. Decompression Stop Violation lock state (switches on, if you at depth of 1.4 m or less, dive computer is in the Decompression Stop violation state (2), and your surface interval is exceeded 10 minutes) – in other words – you had missed your Decompression Stop completely.

Nemo Sport turns Safety Stop state when you ascend to 6 meters or less after diving to 10 meters or deeper. Dive computer gives you prompt to make a 3-minutes stop between 6 and 1.5 meters.

Out-of-range state activates when you exceed measurable limits of this dive computer.

Each of 4 above-mentioned states has set of common functions and below you see the list some of them:

  • backlight function (backlight comes on for 2-3 seconds);
  • current depth measurement;
  • dive time measurement;
  • average depth calculation function (it is displayed in Dive Log Mode only);
  • max depth reached;
  • Oxygen Limited Indicator (OLI) bar graph display;
  • PO2 indicator – displays PO2 level;
  • temperature display;
  • ascent rate graph and violation warning;
  • out-of-range warning function;
  • deepstop function, etc.

No-Decompression state has also Safety Stop function that activates upon reaching certain conditions, and Decompression state has Decompression stop depth and time functions, Total Ascent Time function and Decompression Stop Violation warning.

Mares Nemo Sport NO-DECO Card

To keep us fully alert during dive, Nemo Sport has several Warning displays and some of them listed below:

  1. Ascent Rate warning;
  2. Decompression dive warning;
  3. Decompression Stop Violation warning;
  4. OLI (oxygen limited indicator) warning;
  5. PO2 warning;
  6. Out-of-range warning

After the dive we may access the following modes and displays:

  1. Dive Planner;
  2. Dive Log mode has capacity of 30 the most recent dives;
  3. PC transfer mode;
  4. Surface interval display;
  5. Desaturation display;
  6. No Fly Time display;
  7. OLI (oxygen limited indicator) display

Dive Planner gives you possibility to set depth ranks and get No-Decompression Limits for those depths. There are 14 depth ranks counting from 9m (30 ft) to 48m (160 ft). So, each rank is 3 meters deeper than the previous.

Nemo Sport has extensive dive history and consists of few screens. Some of the values are listed below:

  1. total number of dives;
  2. total dive time;
  3. FO2 concentration;
  4. dive date and time;
  5. maximum and average depth;
  6. lowest water temperature;
  7. oxygen limit indicator (OLI) at the end of dive;
  8. all applicable warnings, etc.

If you got any warnings recorded in logbook during a dive, like PO2 or Decompression dive, for example - they would be displayed in specific screens.

Mares Nemo Sport: What Divers Say

  • very comfortable and easy to use;
  • very functional and the watch works great;
  • it has a good display and clear warnings;
  • perfect computer for non-deco dives;
  • computer is great, the price, the size and the features;

  • all vital dive data and warnings are shown in one screen - no toggling back and forth in order to find the critical information

Works Great But NO User Replaceable Battery & Hard To Follow Manual

Love the dive watch computer, but weird written user manual and NO user battery replacement option - are the main drawbacks of Mares Nemo Sport! Learn user documentation thoroughly before even thinking to jump to water!

Important tip on Nemo Sport Computer and Nitrox

While using the Mares Nemo Sport during my AOW/ EANx checkout dives I learned something the hard way. I had overlooked a detail in the manual. We did consecutive days of drift diving the deep reefs off Palm Bch County Florida using Nitrox 34.

I set my computer to the correct FO2 percentage and all was well the first day. The next day upon analyzing my gas the percentage was the same so I didn't think I needed to change the computer. WRONG! The computer defaults to 21% (air) when the date changes. I was confused when the alarm went off while my buddy's and the instructor's computers showed all was well.

I like the computer, but the manual is awful.

Mares Nemo Sport Needs Big Work On User Manual

Dive computer is good for recreational diving, it's compact and with basic functions.

But it has one of the most difficult user manual to learn! After trying several times to figure out how to use Nemo Sport by following user documentation, I put the docs aside and learnt all functions just by diving with it. Thankfully I had previous experience with dive computers, so learning by experience wouldn't give me any troubles and it took me faster than learning with the book in front of me!

Overall it's a good dive computer if you went through learning process and know how to operate it, but I don't recommend Mares Nemo Sport for the beginners, so if you are ardent fan of Mares and want to keep it "KISS" - go for Mares Puck wrist!
