We set our Mares Puck to PREDIVE mode before going into water and when computer senses depth more than 1.2 meters for more than 20 seconds - it will activate preset dive type (Air, Nitrox (EAN), or Gauge), starts recording your dive profile, and displays following dive data if set for Air in No-Decompression mode.

When Mares Puck is set for Nitrox - displays look similar, but two critical values in regards to diving with Nitrox are displayed - %CNS (your oxygen toxicity level) and FO2.
During diving with Nitrox computer calculates other crucial parameters, which are typical for nitrox dives. Those parameters are:
Mares Puck may give us Safety Stop prompt if we get below 10 meters and then start ascending or series of 1 minute Deep stops if we are in Decompression dive mode, or if we are close to No-Decompression limits.
After you started ascending, dive computer activates ascent rate algorithm and notify you if the rate of ascent is more than 12m/min (39ft/min) – it shows full bar with all segments, gives you message SLOW, and beeps on you.
If we exceed NO-Decompression Limits (NDLs) - dive computer will activate Decompression mode to help us perform decompression procedure and resurface safely.
Mares Puck manages Decompression stops by graphically displaying two triangles (arrows). They are easy to understand and follow:
Below you may see a summary from main and alternative displayes of what values will be shown during diving with Air in Decompression mode:
When you get Decompression mode while diving with Nitrox - display will look mainly the same as with Air, but few more values will be displayed:
Mares Puck: Diving In GAUGE Mode
In Gauge mode computer doesn’t perform any calculations for No-Decompression Limits or for Decompression stops times. It works as a timer and depth gauge only.
During this mode, this dive computer has number of displays to assist you on your way down and up. It will show:
After diving we may easy access following modes by using just 1 button of Mares Puck ! List of them you will find below:
Mares Puck: What Divers Say
Mares Puck is a recommended dive computer and perfect choice for the beginners and recreational divers, who have Nitrox Certification and want to buy an easy, straightforward and streamlined scuba dive computer, but at the same time, computer that meets the requirements of diving with nitrox in No-Decompression or Decompression conditions, and can be used as a gauge (bottom timer).
And, by the way, you will not pay too much as well! Isn’t it nice – fully functional nitrox and gauge dive computer for such a price!
Main inconveniences, I think, is no battery 'hot swap'.
I've heard some complaints about optional PC interface and lack STEP BACK feature in menus, but I think these inconveniences can’t be considered as a disadvantage, and with 1-button-access dive computers menus go one after another. It has Drak PC interface and you need to buy it as an accessory and regularly transfer data from Puck to PC.
As from my personal experience, Mares Puck dive computer is one of the easiest and the most user - friendly dive computers I’ve ever used - and this is a main benefit for us! And it’s perfect choice for the beginners, thanks to not only excellent structured documentation, but also easy data access and programming, using just one button – you don’t need to memorize strange button combinations, if you have 3 or 4 of them!
