Mares Nemo Apneist is a purely freediving computer as it is understood from its name. Mares produced this model with all recreational freedivers' needs in mind and indeed we got very elegant dive watch computer. It has mimimum settings and allows the user learning it quickly and become proficient with it in no time! On top of that - diver may wear it onshore as a wrist watch, as it has all nesessary functions.
It has very easy to understand menu, 4 control buttons, and of course only 1 dive mode - FREEdive, which means that Mares Nemo Apneist doesn't calculate any NDLs.

Mares Nemo Apneist user interface and buttons locations are similar to Nemo Excel, but it is only the thing that makes these two dive computers look the same. Apneist has 4 easy to press control buttons, easy display layout, and not many numbers to read.
Display devided into two sections - main area and bar below it. Depending on mode you are in - you may see either time, or Set menu parameters, or depth during a dive on main part of display; and bar below the main area can be customized to see more data, related to Set, Time, Dive modes.
Mares Nemo Apneist has 3 menu operating modes: Main menu, Dive menu and Time menu. From the Main menu you can access Dive and Time menus or set dive computer to OFF to save the power when it is idle.
Using Time menu operations you will be able to set following parameters:
Dive menu has following parameters to set:
As you may see there are not many parameters to set and with the help of perfectly organized user manuals and intuitive dive computer interface you won't have any troubles doing that!
From Dive menu you may also access PC mode and Logbook.
After we set all parameters with ease - we are ready to do first submerging!
After Mares Nemo Apneist senses depth of 1.2 meters - it turns Dive mode and start counting time of your dive. During diving all functions get disabled except backlight. To activate it - press button for 2 seconds and display will be lit for 4 seconds (backlight is factory preset).
Backlight is strong and digits are clear to see at any angle and depth.

On surface Mares Nemo Apneist activates Surface mode and makes available following functions:
Mares Nemo Apneist doesn't have user battery replacement option. This is not very convenient, especially if you are on holidays somewhere on the islands without any dealer's shop. So, as I guess, few handymen will find a way to replace battery themselves!
Mares Nemo Apneist: What Divers Say
Mares Nemo Apneist has only two modes: freediving computer or wrist watch. And you can use both of them with great success! Mares supplied it with very well written user manuals and designed this instrument with very intuitive interface and reasonable number of functions that cover freediving activities and normal everyday life!
It doesn't have as many special functions as Aeris F.10, for example, and in addition it costs a bit higher than F.10.
We didn't find any problems with Apneist underwater or on surface. There is only one thing that we can not comment - interface between Mares Nemo Apneist and PC - we didn't have IRIS optical unit to interconnect them.
And again - battery replacement question. As Mares stated - battery must be replaced only in authorized shop. So, before investing in this dive computer - consider this as well!
Everything else worked great: display readouts, backlight, audio alarms, pressing buttons. And onshore we may use it as a wrist watch - it's not bulky, sits very comfortable and very convenient to use - even had few compliments from people.
